Employee Wellness Programme: Raise Health Awareness & Protect Yourself from Medical Myths
Good health does not rely solely on treatment but also on having the right understanding of our own bodies. In today’s era of social media, health information spreads quickly, but not all of it is accurate or verified. Many people end up confused, trying various supplements or following “viral tips” that may not necessarily be safe.
Recognizing this issue, AmdeeCorp organized the Employee Wellness Program at Amdee Event Space, Sunway Perdana, Penang. The program featured Dr. Mustaqim Isham, an Accredited HRDC Trainer and Registered Medical Practitioner, who guided participants to gain a deeper understanding of modern health issues, particularly cholesterol, the risks of non-communicable diseases, and how to obtain reliable medical information.
Dr. Mustaqim explained in detail what cholesterol is, its good and bad roles, and the long-term effects if it is not controlled. He helped participants correctly interpret cholesterol test results, understand healthy target values, and take practical steps to reduce the risk of heart disease. Participants were also educated on which health screening tests are truly essential, helping them avoid wasting time and money on unnecessary tests.
In addition to the topic of cholesterol, the session also emphasized health literacy — specifically, how to determine whether medical information found online is accurate or merely a myth. Dr. Mustaqim shared several simple techniques, such as how to verify sources, assess the credibility of articles or videos, and identify when it is necessary to seek advice from a qualified doctor.
Throughout the session, participants were very engaged and actively asked questions, particularly about lifestyle choices, cholesterol medication, and supplements frequently promoted on social media. Many shared that they had often felt confused by conflicting information, but after this program, they felt more confident in making informed decisions about their health.
The feedback received was overwhelmingly positive, with participants saying the session opened their eyes to the importance of getting accurate facts before taking any health-related action. They also appreciated the opportunity to have one-on-one discussions with a medical officer and receive professional insights based on their individual health test results.
